FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What Are The most common types of wires used?
Category 6 – Ethernet (Regular Wall Ports, Wireless Access Points, Surveillance Cameras, Access Control, Audio Control Panels)
Shielded Category 6 – Video Distribution (Matrix-Based Distribution where HDMI Baluns are utilized)
RG6 – Coaxial (Cable and satellite distribution boxes near televisions)
2 & 4 Conductor Wire (In-wall speakers and audio)
Fiber-optic – Ethernet & Video (Long-run video transmission, Long-run Ethernet transmission (>300′), and Future-proofing)
What does a Media Drop consist of?
A media drop attempts to provide flexibility for a room by providing multiple methods of transmitting audio/video/network to a chosen TV location. This drop consists of three home-run cables placed within close proximity to a standard electrical outlet. An RJ6 (Coaxial) cable is utilized for non-distributed video where a cable service provider’s box is placed in direct proximity to the TV. A shielded CAT6 cable is used to bring distributed video with the use of remote baluns. A CAT6 (Ethernet) cable is placed to bring wired internet connectivity or could be used for direct device control (IR) when needed. The 1-gang out box will be covered. None of the wires will be terminated.
What are in-home theater options?
Theater room packages consist of a number of speakers (usually starting with the three front-facing speaker left, right, and center). The number after the decimal point indicates the quantity of sub-woofers. Sub-woofers are omni-directional. Common configurations include: 5.1 // 7.1 // 9.1 // 11.1 // 11.2
How many homes can I include in my home audio?
Our equipment typically comes in sets of four or six (most common) and can be expanded to around 18 rooms. Rooms can be designed with either one or two speakers per room. An Audio Control Panel can be placed inside the room for basic local access if desired.
SHOULD I PLAN FOR A TV OR A PROJECTOR?
This one is based mostly on personal preference. A Television provides good value up to ~90″ where projectors begin making more sense for the larger viewing areas. For a dedicated theater room, nothing beats the feel of a projector. Theater rooms are also usually purpose-built to work well with projectors by reducing or eliminating external light-sources and situating customers directly in front without obstructions.
I don't plan to do some of this right now but we might in the future. Should we go ahead and run the wires for it?
Probably. The cost to run additional wiring is exponentially cheaper during the construction phase. After construction is completed, running new wires and be cumbersome, expensive, and sometimes impossible.
